Step by step guidance for Student visa process

Studying in Australia can be a life-changing experience for Nepalese students, offering world-class education and unique cultural experiences. However, the process of obtaining a student visa can seem daunting and complex. To help ease the process, we have outlined the steps involved in obtaining a student visa to study in Australia from the very beginning.

Step 1: Choose Your Course and University/College

The first step in the student visa process is to choose the course and institution you wish to attend. Australia has a wide range of universities and colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a variety of fields and courses that best match your interests and career objectives Research the options available and select the institution and course that best align with your interests and career goals.

Unsure about what to do? Consider career counseling.

It can be difficult for students to know where to begin when researching study abroad programs and consulting institutions that can help them the most. The first step is to seek out career counseling, as this is where all the critical choices will be made.

A student may not have had much life experience, have difficulty gaining access to relevant knowledge, and struggle to make wise decisions. Through career counseling, it will be easier for you to have an in-depth analysis of your strengths and weaknesses.

Step 2: Meet the Entry Requirements

Each institution will have its own entry requirements, which must be met before you can apply for a student visa. This usually includes a minimum level of English skills and academic qualifications, so it’s important to find out what your chosen institution needs.

Students who wish to attend universities in Australia frequently take the IELTS or PTE. After you’ve finished studying, it’s time to schedule your IELTS or PTE exam and take the test. You’ll be able to apply for admission once you’ve met the necessary criteria.

What’s the minimum requirement?

  • For undergraduate studies, IELTS overall band 6 with no less than 5.5 in each band or PTE equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 6.5 on the overall band 6.0 in each band is required for graduate study, or an equal PTE score.

Step 3: Apply to Your Institution

Once you have met the entry requirements, you can apply to your chosen institution. Most of the time, this means sending in a filled-out application form, any supporting documents, and any fees.

Step 4: Receive a Letter of Offer

If your application is accepted, the institution will send you a Letter of Offer that says you have been accepted into the course. When you apply for your student visa, you will need this letter because it is a key part of the process.

What does it mean by “offer letter”?

If your preferred university is willing to accept you, they will send you an offer letter. Course descriptions, orientation dates, semester start dates, campus locations, course costs, study methods, total tuition, and semester deposit amounts are all included in the offer letter.

It will also include information on how to accept this offer and the next steps to enroll, as well as a Confirmation of Enrollment (COE).

What are the required documents for offer letter processing?

  • Photocopy of your passport
  • English language proficiency test result sheet (IELTS/PTE)
  • Academic documents
  • Application form of applied University or college
  • SOP
  • Work experience (If any)
  • If you are married then you need official record of marriage
  • Be ready for the Skype or phone meeting with your professor or university for offer letter processing (Optional)

In what case did your offer letter get rejected?

  • The candidate’s GPA is below the required level.
  • A late application submission
  • When application is missing some documents
  • Errors in your application or in any documents
  • If you are not a perfect for the college/University
  • If more applicants compared to the seats available

How quickly can you receive an offer letter from a college or university?

The college or university may send you an offer letter within one day to one month.
If you have to sit down for the Skype interview (not applicable in all cases) with your college representative, then there will be two possible outcomes: either your offer letter will be accepted or rejected.

You can always look for another college in case your offer letter is rejected by the college or university where you have applied. However, you have to prepare financial documents if you got offer letter.

Preparation for financial documents

Your financial documents show that you can pay for school and living costs in Australia.
Before approving any payments, the Compliance team and the Education provider conduct a thorough check of all financial documents. Then the money is transferred to the university.

The college will provide the ECOE (Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment) to the student once the payment is received and authorized. The university will typically send an ECOE through email, and it will include the following information:

  • Proof of your acceptance into the program
  • Your college or University fee
  • Duration of your course
  • Course beginning date

The process of filing for a visa now begins after acquiring the ECOE. To get a student visa in Australia, you have to send the Australian government’s immigration office an acceptance letter from the university, a statement of purpose, and any other documents they ask for.
